Walking, a simplest mode of transport and the best exercise one can have. Best of all, it is free and you can do it anytime.

One of the freely available exercise you can do anytime, is walking. You are doing it unconsciously everyday, unless you have mobility issues. For those who are able, you should do it as often as you can. With the National Step Challenge (Singapore), you can strive to walk 10,000 steps (about 30 minutes) a day , just to keep fit. You can track your steps using a simple tracker. More benefits includes:





  • Eases Joint Pain. Walking protects joints, including your knees and hips as it helps lubricate and strengthen muscles that support the joints. Walking may also reduce arthritis-related pain and prevention of arthritis.
  • Boosts Immune Function. Walking can help protect you during cold and flu season. 
  • Improve Your Mood And Reduce Stress. Helps your mental health and reduce stress. It can help reduce anxiety, depression, and a negative mood. It can also boost self-esteem and reduce symptoms of social withdrawal. To achieve these benefits, aim for 30 minutes of brisk walking or other moderate intensity exercise three days a week. Can also break it into three 10-minute walks.
  • Maintain Weight. Walking can help you burn calories. Burning calories can help you maintain or lose weight.
  • Creative thinking. Walking may help clear your head and help you think creatively.

Once Buddha was walking from one town to another town with a few of his followers. This was in the initial days. While they were traveling, they happened to pass a lake.
