My Filipino Project Giveaways

The "Filipino Project" is started by Singapore freegan founder, Colin Lau. The project collects usable small items (clothes, bags, kitchenware, luggage, bed sheets, curtains, blankets, stationery, soft toys, plastic toys, shoes, electrical and electronics, lingerie, etc) and gives them to Filipinos. They pack these items into big carton boxes and ship back to their hometown in the Philippines. The Filipino groups pay for the shipping costs usually. These shipped items are then given to their family members, relatives, or church members as some are so poor, they can't afford a meal. Some items are sold to pay for their essentials, like food, electricity, etc.

Visayas group that came to my place. Still have 2 ladies that not in the photo as they came later.
This is my 7th giveaway to this project on 14 September 2019.

Below are the giveaway items photos. This time round I have 13 boxes packed with clothes, bed sheets, bags, curtains, blankets, toys, and stationery. The items took two months to accumulate.
Soft toys.
Items such as clothes, bags, blankets, towels, bed sheets, stationary and plastic toys are mostly packed into boxes for easier storage.
I would place the 2 mats outside my corridor as mine is a corner flat. It is more spacious and airy to sort and pack the items. I do give big plastic bags (with zip) if required.

The collection process is very simple. I would engage either groups (I am supporting two groups now. Visayas group lead by Marjorie and Luzon group lead by Brenda) and agreed on the collection date and time. I usually post pictures of my items to give them an idea of how much stuff I am giving them beforehand. On an actual day, they would come and collect the items.

Below are the collection process photos.

This group does bring me lunch whenever they come to collect my items. I would like to thank them for their kind gesture. Actually clear all the items from my dining room meant a lot to me. Finally, I can sweep and mop the dining area after 2 months. Hahaha...

Below are the photos from my 5th giveaway with the Luzon group.

This is the Luzon group that I also support as well.

    1. You are welcome. I am treating this charity as one of my leisure activities and a byproduct of my dumpster diving activity. So it is really not that significant actually. I am just glad the stuff that I give away will be useful to someone who needs them.

iSAVvy: Financial Independence — The Lows

Low on cash? What have you been spending on? Image from: Photo by  cottonbro  from  Pexels Financial independence is essentially able to sustain your lifestyle with the amount of money you have without working. This is one of life’s most difficult problems everyone has and many are unable to overcome it. —— Dickson Idlier I am not a financial consultant. What I wrote here is purely my opinion. The road to my financial independence is essentially be low on debts and expenses and high in investments and assets. How to control your expenses and debts depends on what is essential to you. I prefer rejecting any instalments (debts) whenever possible and have a simple lifestyle. After these, then build up your savings, investments and assets. This is how I did without many details but I think it is the easiest to get started. Ways to keep a low debt and expenses: Food is essential but not all kinds of food. Try keeping food expenses low but not compromising on quality. Reduce ...

IdlierStories: Be Happy With What We Have

Positive Brain Facebook Group A Sage was passing through the capital city of the famous king. While he was walking, he noticed a single currency coin on the road. He picked it up. He was satisfied with his simple living and he had no use of that coin. So, he planned to donate it to the one who is in need of it. He strolled around the streets throughout the day but didn’t find anyone such. Finally, he reached the rest area and spent a night there. Next morning, he wakes up in the morning for his daily activities and sees that a king is going for his invasion of another state with his war ready army. When the king saw the sage standing, he ordered his army to be stopped. He came to the Sage and said, “Oh Great Sage, I am going to war to win another state so that my state can be expanded. So bless me to be victorious”. After thinking, Sage gave a single currency coin to the king! The king was confused and annoyed with this because what use he has for a single coin while he is already one ...

BrainTeasers: Most bizarre Find

When dumpster diving, you may find interesting stuff as you salvage through the green and blue trash bins and any items people left at the void decks. Here I will show you my most bazzar find. My most bazaar find is ... a Living   11-inch Freshwater Stingray .  My bazzar find live stingray in my 3 ft aquarium The 11 inch freshwater stingray was found in a broken 3ft tank beside the rubbish chute and slightly hidden by some kids' clothes laid on top of the tank. (I suspect the owner doesn't want anyone to notice it) Initially, I was only interested in the kids' clothes until I noticed it inside. When I saw it breathing, it surprised me. I was wondering how can I rescue it. I thought of releasing it in any pond or canals, but none is nearby (luckily as it might be a bad thing to do so). Finally, I decided to bring it home. I used a kids top to hold the tail and put it into a basket that was lying nearby. I carried the basket to my home.  Luckily, after the rough journey hom...
