My Filipino Project Giveaways

The "Filipino Project" is started by Singapore freegan founder, Colin Lau. The project collects usable small items (clothes, bags, kitchenware, luggage, bed sheets, curtains, blankets, stationery, soft toys, plastic toys, shoes, electrical and electronics, lingerie, etc) and gives them to Filipinos. They pack these items into big carton boxes and ship back to their hometown in the Philippines. The Filipino groups pay for the shipping costs usually. These shipped items are then given to their family members, relatives, or church members as some are so poor, they can't afford a meal. Some items are sold to pay for their essentials, like food, electricity, etc.

Visayas group that came to my place. Still have 2 ladies that not in the photo as they came later.
This is my 7th giveaway to this project on 14 September 2019.

Below are the giveaway items photos. This time round I have 13 boxes packed with clothes, bed sheets, bags, curtains, blankets, toys, and stationery. The items took two months to accumulate.
Soft toys.
Items such as clothes, bags, blankets, towels, bed sheets, stationary and plastic toys are mostly packed into boxes for easier storage.
I would place the 2 mats outside my corridor as mine is a corner flat. It is more spacious and airy to sort and pack the items. I do give big plastic bags (with zip) if required.

The collection process is very simple. I would engage either groups (I am supporting two groups now. Visayas group lead by Marjorie and Luzon group lead by Brenda) and agreed on the collection date and time. I usually post pictures of my items to give them an idea of how much stuff I am giving them beforehand. On an actual day, they would come and collect the items.

Below are the collection process photos.

This group does bring me lunch whenever they come to collect my items. I would like to thank them for their kind gesture. Actually clear all the items from my dining room meant a lot to me. Finally, I can sweep and mop the dining area after 2 months. Hahaha...

Below are the photos from my 5th giveaway with the Luzon group.

This is the Luzon group that I also support as well.

    1. You are welcome. I am treating this charity as one of my leisure activities and a byproduct of my dumpster diving activity. So it is really not that significant actually. I am just glad the stuff that I give away will be useful to someone who needs them.

Book Summary: The Complete Guide to Fasting by Jason Fung & Jimmy Moore

This is a book that I have read and feels that it is one of the books to keep for reference or at least read once, on the topic of maintaining your health. You might be wondering, why fasting has got to do with your health? Read on... I would be summarizing based on chapters but I will focus on the main chapters as some chapters are not so important but if you are interested to read on them, please borrow the book from the National Library.  INTRODUCTION Dr. Jason Fung , a who is a Toronto based Nephrologist (kidney specialist) but he is known for his treatment using fasting method for obesity and type 2 diabetes. In 2012, he established the Intensive Dietary Management Program (IDM), which uniquely focus on diet as a treatment for obesity and type 2 diabetes. The underlying cause of obesity turns out to be a hormonal, rather than a caloric, imbalance. Excessively and persistently high insulin levels result inexorably in obesity. Insulin certainly lower...

BrainTeasers: Cross Fire 穿越火线

Image from: Mewatch.com Country: China Genre: Gaming, Time Travel Release Date: 2020 Rating:  ★★★ ★★ I just finished watching this drama on Mewatch.com. This is one of the best dramas that I have ever watched, especially since it is on esport. Initially, I wanted to watch it due to an esport drama, but it turned out to be such an excellent drama.  The drama is about 2 esport players for Crossfire game, XiaoFeng (Seven), a team leader for 1coin team in the year 2008 and another is XiaoBei (North), team leader for Continue team in the year 2019.  They somehow managed to contact each other through this game during an accident. With this encounter, they later managed to realize who each other is and they helped each other during different time eras to try to make some changes that happened. Through this, XiaoFeng managed to win the first CrossFire competition in China and XiaoBei managed to form an esport team and continued to compete CrossFire as a professional player. ...

@Lifestyle: My Reasons Becoming A Partial-Freegan

  Reject mindless consumerism I chanced upon freeganism when reviewing my investments. I just left my stressful job (details in another post ). I dreamed to retire from work by age 45 but had no concrete plans then. I felt freeganism is a path to fulfil my early retirement dream. The idea behind freeganism is to get what you need for free and use your money only on necessities. I joined the "Freegan in Singapore" Facebook group, where Colin Lau's articles on freeganism impress me. I started dumpster diving and managed to rescue mostly merchandise and occasionally food. I spend money on bills, insurance premiums and food. Below are my reasons for becoming a partial-freegan: Sick of work.  Mainly due to office politics, backstabbing, lack of job satisfaction and Information Technology (IT) industry are always fire-fighting. Felt physically and mentally tired. Low pay jobs have their stress and problems. Want to quit working for money forever.  No idea why I earn money....
