If the software is not suitable, change it.

Practice What We Preach by Master Hsing Yun

Facebook Group View All Sentient Beings with Compassion How do you view others? With suspicion, jealousy, disdain, or prejudice? Some may say, "The sage has eyes for heroes." True heroes are rare in this world and not many people possess the eyes of a sage, so it is more important if we are able to view sentient beings with eyes of compassion. Parents use compassionate eyes in bringing up their children. Teachers use compassionate eyes in monitoring their students' progress. Seniors use their compassionate eyes in watching the younger generation prosper, succeed, and make a good name for the family. A country uses compassionate eyes in viewing the overall well-being of its citizens. Good neighbors use compassionate eyes in helping each other. In benevolent organizations, workers use compassionate eyes to support one another.

BrainTeasers:《中英》Excellence Not Anger by Master Hsing Yun

Facebook Group Excellence Not Anger According to the First Noble Truth of Suffering, there are eight kinds of suffering in life, and hatred is one of them. It brings unspeakable suffering and arises when we encounter undesirable people or situations. Although our parents and teachers have repeatedly taught us to control our anger, we often ignore their advice and easily get angry with people and things in all kinds of situations. For example, I might be furious because you were not friendly or respectful. I might even resent you because you are better than I am or have a different view. Your success or wealth might agitate me. Your meaningless glance or words might enrage me just because I am too sensitive. No matter what the situation is, if I make up my mind to be angry and resentful, nothing will stop this powerful emotion from arising. People are too quick to unleash their anger, and as a result, an air of tension and negativity permeates our society...

Contemplation by Master Hsing Yun

Contemplation "Contemplation" is a very important practice in Buddhism. It will bring unlimited benefit to our lives, regardless of our profession or social stature. But w...

Book Summary: The Complete Guide to Fasting by Jason Fung & Jimmy Moore

This is a book that I have read and feels that it is one of the books to keep for reference or at least read once, on the topic of maintaining your health. You might be wondering, why fasting has got to do with your health? Read on... I would be summarizing based on chapters but I will focus on the main chapters as some chapters are not so important but if you are interested to read on them, please borrow the book from the National Library.  INTRODUCTION Dr. Jason Fung , a who is a Toronto based Nephrologist (kidney specialist) but he is known for his treatment using fasting method for obesity and type 2 diabetes. In 2012, he established the Intensive Dietary Management Program (IDM), which uniquely focus on diet as a treatment for obesity and type 2 diabetes. The underlying cause of obesity turns out to be a hormonal, rather than a caloric, imbalance. Excessively and persistently high insulin levels result inexorably in obesity. Insulin certainly lower...

Interesting takeaway from Caregivers Forum

I joined my wife to attend the "Caregivers forum" at Grand Hyatt Singapore Hotel at Scotts Road on 2nd Nov 2019.  During Dr. Ang Yong Guan (specialize in Psychiatry)'s presentation, he mentioned about two interesting people that changed his thinking and lifestyle.  Dr. Jason Fung  on "intermittent fasting" and  Mathew Walker  on "Sleep". Dr. Ang has mentioned in the presentation he has managed to keep his weight down with Dr. Jason Fung's advice.  With such information, I started to research these two people on Youtube and found their videos and books in the library as well. A little more of  Dr. Jason Fung , who is a Toronto based kidney specialist but he is known for his intermittent fasting for obesity and type 2 diabetes. As I got to know him, I realized that I am also doing a similar form of intermittent fasting (less than 24 hrs) every day. He talks about the benefits of fasting (Go to  10 Evidence-Based Health Benefits of I...

When giveaways take too much effort

As I get free stuff through dumpster diving, a problem slowly materialized. Stuck with stuff I don't need but still useful. So initially thoughts to give away. The giveaway details are in my earlier blog post "Declutter in progress but where to get rid of my stuff?".  Below are pictures to show the magnitude of my hoarding problem. This is the state of my dining area This is the state of my guest room.  This is the state of my living room Eventually, I realized my giveaway approach has two flaws: 1. TOO MUCH EFFORT TO GIVE AWAY ITEMS Takes too much effort giving away single or multiple items. Posting of the items on different platforms, answering queries and confirmation of the collection schedule, begins seeping away my energy. While most receivers are nice people, some are not. As too much time wasted giving away, and this time wasted I can gather more stuff for dumpster diving. As the lack of time to do what I want, I started to reject this i...

My Filipino Project Giveaways

The "Filipino Project" is started by Singapore freegan founder, Colin Lau. The project collects usable small items (clothes, bags, kitchenware, luggage, bed sheets, curtains, blankets, stationery, soft toys, plastic toys, shoes, electrical and electronics, lingerie, etc) and gives them to Filipinos. They pack these items into big carton boxes and ship back to their hometown in the Philippines. The Filipino groups pay for the shipping costs usually. These shipped items are then given to their family members, relatives, or church members as some are so poor, they can't afford a meal. Some items are sold to pay for their essentials, like food, electricity, etc. Visayas group that came to my place. Still have 2 ladies that not in the photo as they came later. This is my 7th giveaway to this project on 14 September 2019. Below are the giveaway items photos.
